Garbage or Halloween Dress for me?

Filed Under (Fashion, Press, Trends) by Anne on 22-10-2010

I was flicking through my  Facebook page today and I came across this article which was posted by a friend of mine Rhonda Ryan who is also on twitter by the way @IBelieveInStyle:

You have to see this artist! I just found her blog on Yahoo Shine…. Robin Barcus Slonina is an installation and performance artist working on a project called “States of Dress”.  She is touring the country, creating dresses that represent one of the states. Her goal is to create a sculpture for each of the 50 states.  And on her blog States of Dress, you can see pictures and read all about her design process.  I love this project!

Well I had to just take a peek Rhonda at what you were talking about as I just love weird dress designs and this has to be one of them, I cannot wait to see what comes next.

So if that didn’t grab you as a must have creation, take a look at this next creation which I found in the Basement of Macy’s. I guess it is to celebrate Halloween or Harvest Festival it reminds me of being a child and seeing Aunt Sally on TV, do you remember her she was the scarecrow that came to life? So on the basis of what you have just seen let’s just say I am still looking for my perfect dress to attend the ACE awards next week.

Anthony Dickey Rules My Hair !

Today I was out shopping and picked up my usual monthly magazines, except Vogue which I get delivered and amongst the ones I picked up was the November copy of Allure. I opened it to read about new products on the market you can use to Blow Out your hair in under 12 minutes in journalist Sophia Panych’s opinion. I was floored to read what she thought of the products used at my hair dresser. You know when something is good I support it so to read their comment made me want to put my opinion in print too.

I am very fussy when it comes to my hair and that I have struggled to find a good, I mean good hairdresser since I moved to  New York. A couple of months back a girl friend introduced me to Anthony Dickey, more commonly known as just ‘Dickey’ at Hair Rules. I have to say time and time again that he changed not only my hair but my life.

I have what I can only describe as Shirley Temple hair, does anyone remember her? well if you do then that is me and if you don’t then probably better you just have a vision of a blond poodle. For years I have stretched my hair with a blow drier, ironed it with flat irons (not the kitchen iron) and then I went to Hair Rules on 54th & 9th in New York. Dickey talked to me about the products they use in the salon, from Aloe Grapefruit purifying shampoo which is paraben and sulfate free, quench ultra-rich conditioner through to hydrating finishing cream.

I was to be honest at first a bit reluctant to change from the range I had been using for some time, but over the next few weeks armed with all the products I took the advice that I was given and I have never looked back or been happier with my hair.

The texture of my hair is healthy and shiny and everyone comments on it, to such an extent that  I was in the Galway Hooker, a drinking venue on 36th & 5th with my girlfriends when they had a Bacardi promotion night. The  official photographer came over to me in the heaving bar and asked if he could take a picture of me with their promotional drink. I was totally bemused as to why he chose me when there were some very attractive young people there – his answer was ‘ because your hair looks wonderful’.

So having read the piece in Allure I had to share this story with you, I maybe bias alongside other Hair Rules clients such as Michelle Obama, Sarah-Jessica Parker and Estelle but not without just cause. So if you want healthy, shiny hair, go try Hair Rules and let them have your opinion too.

So it has been a while since I last posted on my blog, I have been travelling so much and busy, busy, busy. So where have I been? well firstly I went off to Washington DC with izzi and we had such a fun packed weekend. It was one of those weekends we all need in our lives at some point, you know when you just want to turn off the phone, chill out, have some good food and wine and act like a tourist. We visited every presidential memorial that they have in Washington, but I have to say some were really inspiring and some were just there. I loved the Lincoln Memorial and the Roosevelt park was just so lovely.

This picture reminds me of Phil Collin’s song ‘ I can’t dance, I can’t sing, the only thing about me is the way I walk….’ or something like that

After walking 15 miles in 3 days we decided to just enjoy the sunshine and chill out in the park.

Then it was back to New York for izzi and off to London for me as it was my mum’s 80th birthday treat. As most of you know my mum has been very unwell and she is waiting for a heart operation. So I went to the birthday and then my sister and brother and I took her by car to France for a few days.

She had a wonderful time and she really loved this Chateau that we stayed in, she said she was going to tell everyone back home this was her holiday home, sorry your secret is out mum!

We had a lovely family time and now I returned to New York just in time for Columbus weekend and so izzi and I decided to take a road trip to Boston. This was not a good idea on a bank holiday weekend and 7 hours later we were still stuck in the traffic. We stayed out at a place called Marlborough, do you know it? well if you don’t it is one of the most quaint places I have visited in the US. I want to live there, the houses are all spread out in the forrest and are all New England style wooden framed built, with pretty wrap around porches. We visited a small farm that had an honesty shop! yes you heard it an honesty shop, I have never been to one of these before and believe me in the UK the shop would be emptied before close of business on the first day.

We went to Quincy Market and ate Clam Chowder in Boston, I ate so much of it over the few days that I am a bit Clam Chowdered out now but it is lovely and had to be done.

Now this trip there were two highlights, the first was the Whale watching which we did from Gloucester, my family live there but the one in the UK not in Maine USA. These whales were huge and I mean huge. At one point I had a vision of the movie ‘The Storm’ and the boat being over turned by a Whale, scary or a vivid imagination I am not sure which.

The second highlight has to be the food I had at dinner I was totally stuffed but it was worth it…..
