So having said all the above I made izzi come into the city with me and left him browsing around his favorite store B&H on 9th and I went off to the ink48 Hotel on 11th Avenue to see what products Kimmie had put together. I was instantly drawn to the corner of the room where this stunning Indian Lady was standing amongst an array of Silk and Cashmere scarves. Everything else seem to just fold away, I had to talk with her, I wanted to touch the fine silks and soft cashmere. Please do not ask me why I had this urgent need to talk to her I have no idea. Anyway her name is Bhavna Juneja and she is one of two sisters, brought up in New Delhi, India by a single mother. She came to the USA and got married and had two children, she now is also a single mother. I know so much about her already, I feel like I have known this woman half my life, oh and before I forget her company is called Jammu Style

I spent a lot of time asking her about her scarves, asking where she got her inspiration from, where the silks were made, how she printed the soft cashmere. I wanted to know everything about them, Bhavna told me that she has been inspired by the Indian Maharajas and it shows through in the prints on the scarves. The silks are hand rolled to perfection and the cashmere is not only hand woven but dyed in the spring waters of Kashmir. She has even encrusted her new collection with Swarovski crystals. Her collection of silk twill scarves have been printed with ceremonial swords, timeless timepieces, royal jewels and royal classics. There are truly amazing and the colors are so vivid.

I left the hotel feeling really inspired by Bhavna and her story and felt that our paths would cross again, little did I know that she had felt the same and the next day she contacted me and we agreed to have lunch. When I met her again we talked for more than two hours and realized we had a lot of synergy in our lives. I have to tell you that Bhavna is an amazing woman and I for one think that you my readers must check out her website as soon as you can. I ask you to pass the word to your friends about her, she needs all our help to make this business a success and I for one will talk about her often. I count her now as a friend and wish her every success for her future, the next time I see you, I hope you will be wearing one of scarves from the Jammu Style collection.

In the middle of last week I went off to LA to visit some friends and you know I was always under the impression that noone ate food on that side off the country, health freaks and no carbs, no nothing, well clearly I was mistaken as when  I ordered two appetizers instead of one and an entree the server looked at me as though I wass nuts…You can see why.

So after trying but failing miserably to eat all this food I took a drive along Santa Monica Blvd…fancy… and I bumped into a Polar Bear.

So you can see my trip to LA was really a holiday experience and now all the good work of loosing weight for my vacation is going to send me to the Gym from Monday thru Thursday to get those pounds off, because if not I will end up looking like this.

So anyway I thought that I had should get right back on the plane to New York to normality or so I thought and as I drove back from the airport I saw this man dressed in a newspaper.I am praying it does not rain otherwise he could be paper Mache.. I need therapy.

Anyway so before I sign off I want to show you my new venture, I have lived for 2 years in New York and never had a headboard for my bed as to be honest I could not find anything I liked. So I made one and here it is, I would change a few things if I made another one but on the whole I was really happy.

Anyway I feel very proud of myself…

I went to the accessories market week at the Javits center and bought a new hat, I so love hats and I have a huge collection at home now, which is doing izzi’s head in as he trips over them…ooops anyway let me know what you think of my new addition.

Izzi and I had to go to a wedding of his university friend Wai Poon in Hong Kong  and we had  such a memorable time. Hong Kong is such a vibrant city, we slept a total of 10 hours. The wedding was held Repulse Bay just outside Hong Kong and it’s such a beautiful place, the only downside on the day was that it rained. We all made the most of it and they looked so happy on the day and Michelle was a stunning bride.

Izzet and I spent a lot of time browsing the markets and I just love seeing all the fruits and vegetables which we have no idea, what they were. I would love to have had access to a kitchen so I could have experimented with them. But look at such vibrant colors and what are these?

Izzi and I had a wonderful time, but and there was a but, I left my dress for the evening dinner hanging on my wardrobe door and that turned out to be the biggest disaster ever. You maybe wondering why, well I am by no means a big person and if you are in the USA I wear a size 8 and if you are in the UK I wear a size 10. Now the thing is that every shop I dragged my OH around to get a replacement dress turned into disaster after disaster and that was because everyone in Hong Kong seems to be tiny ! seriously when I looked around that wasn’t true, but could I find a dress to fit me? No I could not. When I asked in fancy shops like Prada and Gucci and Versace they told me I was too big! were they kidding me? No they sure weren’t. Just as I decided to give up and go home, I walked into French Connection (Not a shop I normally frequent Sorry and all that Jazz but I don’t)They came to the rescue and I picked up a body con dress that squeezed me so tight that I couldn’t breath but it fitted and got me out of a huge hole.

Say nothing about the hair because that was another story, having spent 3 hours with rollers in my hair, as soon as I stepped out of the hotel the humidity hit and it went like poodle fur…I was not amused at all. At the end of the day it was not my wedding day and so I just got on with it and saw the funny side.

Since I was last here I had a birthday and there are no words to describe how happy I was with my pressie from the OH…. what is a girl to say when this is what I got…

I am now looking forward to the ACE Awards in New York which will be held at Cipriani next week, where I will be wearing the shoes and get this…. the man himself, yes Mr Christian Louboutin, will be there and I am going to ask him to sign the shoes. I cannot wait, so on that note I am going to go and polish my shoes.

We went to the Asian side too and had to take a ferry across the Bosphorus which is a really fun day out and you can see the whole of Istanbul from the ferry. We went to have fresh fish and believe me it does not come any fresher…

We went to the spice market and if you have never visited one anywhere in the world, you cannot appreciate the smell and atmosphere, it is electric. You can find the most exotic spices, probably even ones you have never heard of, do not know what to do with and some that I would be wary about using! I have to say that I am not a big fan of flavored teas, but in Istanbul I got addicted to the apple tea , so much so I carried a ton of it home!

Now you know me, when it comes to a bargain, I am your woman! we went to the Grand Bazaar , where there are more than 5000 shops it is claimed. Believe me when i say I think we visited them all…to be honest I didn’t buy too much this trip, or at least not that I am admitting too but the art on some of the bowls and lamps is awesome.

If we were able to change the light fittings in our home I would have bought one of these wonderful lamps, but as we are in transit this month of looking for a new New York home, I decided to wait until the next trip, but take a look at the wonderful colors. They made me want to stare at them for ever, I felt really inspired by them and I wanted to get my drawing book out, they gave me great ideas for the new collection.

As the week drew to a close I was quite sad to be leaving Istanbul, but happy to be getting back to New York.

I love the adventures we have and  I  love always coming back to New York, where nothing surprises me, having said that on Sunday izzi and I went off to the East village to get some provisions. I was longing for a good old English Banger! (Sausage for those Americans reading this) and we went in search of Meyers of Berwick, where they sell everything British. Normally I never feel the need to eat good old English food, but when it come to sausages I am a sucker. But of course you could not leave the shop without buying a pork pie and and a sausage roll now could we! Bang goes the diet again then!

As we left the shop izzi and I decided to walk home in the lovely sunshine and we passed a shop that had a rather strange sign in the window. I have no idea at all what to say about this, what it was about or what they were in fact selling. Answers on a postcard please!

I tried to find a pair of shoes to fit, but the assistant told me that these feet were not meant to be in shoes! can you tell me what is actually wrong I ask you! LOL

And then we went into the subway at 14th street and there was a Croc eating a child…WTH ? I have no idea what the artist was thinking or why the City allowed this to be in a subway, but there you have it.

You may have read on my twitter feed that I have been dieting with Izzet? well we have been doing the DUKAN diet from France, basically it is eating all proteins with additional vegetables, but no carbs… log on to their site and check it out. Now I am not one of these faddy dieters extraordinaire, believe me but I have to say that this diet has changed my world. I have lost more than 41lbs and I feel great. I had to leave my lovely apartment in New York and come to London this last few weeks because my mother in law passed away. This has been really an unhappy journey for us as it was not so long ago that Izzet’s dad died and so we are all feeling a little sad as you can expect.

On a lighter note, it was my sister’s birthday and she was the magical 60… she will not forgive me for writing that but it’s true LOL and we had a wonderful time at her birthday bash. All our family got together for a night of drinking, eating and laughter. Here I am with my brother, sister, mum and dad awwww…

Izzet and I had the best night ever and it made us appreciate what we have. Sometimes in life I think we all forget what is precious to us and take everything and everyone for granted. We have to really pull ourselves up short and remember to savour the moments we have together.

So now we have moved into London and ready for our journey to Istanbul tomorrow. I am going to tape my radio show which is on UKHDRadio ’A view from my view’ in Istanbul won’t that be fun? I do hope you get time to listen to some of my show, it goes out on a Friday drive time London 7-9pm and US 2-4pm. I cannot believe we are already 15 shows in and I am having such fun with it, so far I have had two bloggers, John Simon and Jonathan Valdez in New York as guests, Debbie a great friend from Cyprus and a guy that has a fish spa! I met my dear friend Stylisa yesterday for a quick glass of wine and it was so great to catch up with her and all her adventures and she bought me a rather special bear as a pressie and here he is.

As soon as Wiles gets out of his Harrods Green Bag and finds his passport we will be off to Istanbul and enjoying a piece of Borek or two. So join us on our journey across the world and back.

So I step off the train in Times Square, this should have been my first warning, but being blond I just didn’t think and the first thing I see when I hit the daylight was this guy taking a pee in the street. Yep you heard it he was standing between two cars peeing in broad daylight into the street. I certainly was not going to get any closer and ask him if he knew what he was doing!

So I continued to walk towards home, that is the huge apartment block on the Hudson River with the red flashing handbag on the top, just in case you were wondering. As I walk down 9th Avenue or for those in the know this is locally referred to as ‘Hells Kitchen’ I have no idea why except for the fact that this area has more restaurants than any other area in the city so maybe it is because all the Chef’s are mad, then I saw this sign out side one establishment.

I quite like a plate of braised lamb or couscous but on this occasion I will leave the pudding thanks all the same!

I have been telling everyone or more appropriately anyone that will listen about my diet, because I am eternally proud of the fact that I have in fact lost 30lbs. If anyone comments by saying that made me a fatty or a beached whale I will not speak to them ever again. I know I needed to loose the weight, but you have to remember I now live in the land of ‘Eat all you can for $10′. So now I have been eating out less and eating at home less, you work that one out.  Having said that I have now firmly established my own seat at Rouge Tomate on 60th & 5th Avenue, the bar tender actually knows my full name and has my 300 calorie or less cocktail awaiting me on most afternoons – what is he trying to say? I am only joking, well kind of ! but anyway the reason I am talking about Rouge is that their food is very healthily put together  because I am finding that I do not come out feeling or looking like Jabba the Hut when I go there. If you live in New York or visit then try it for yourself and let me know.

No Carbs in sight!

I actually asked the Operations Director, Peter if they could show me how to make the low calorie drinks, I was referring to the non alcoholic ones of course. He invited me into have a lesson, how cool is that? so I met up with IAM actually pronounced EAM who proceeded to show me how to make ginger beer. I was amazed at how simple it is, take lots of ginger the amounts vary depending on the size of the container you are going to use obviously and then puree it in a juicer. He then strained it to make sure all the woody bits were removed. Next take some hot water and add to a quart of sugar and 2 tsps of yeast, stir until dissolved. He then placed all the ingredients into a glass jar that has a seal-able lid, before closing he added an orange, lemon and lime which he cut up. Basically that’s it, just leave out for 24 hours, remove fruit then place in a fridge for 2 weeks before drinking. If you want it to be fizzy then add small amounts to a carbonating syphon sand away you go, homemade ginger beer!

So now you decide who is sane and who is mad and next week’s lesson will involve  a tub of glue and two cocktails sticks!

Seasonal Toasts are so lovely

I was really interested to hear what she had to say on my chosen diet and how I could make sure that I did not avoid eating the essential nutrients. At home she told me that she’s no less of a dietary drill sergeant. “I don’t let my husband eat cold cuts—too many preservatives. ” At this point I really sat up to listen, I eat a lot of cold cuts due to the fact I am following a no-carb diet and was really taken aback when Natalia told me that there is a lot of sodium (Salt) in prepacked meats.  When I went shopping yesterday with Izzi I was looking at the packaging to check the sodium content of everything and was flawed at how high it is in some things I picked up. Natalia also pointed out to me that I should check the contents of my refrigerator before I go shopping and she very kindly sent me a picture of hers!

On that note I know this is a strange question to ask you, but what is in your refrigerator and moreover do you care? well I took on board all the points and hints that Natalia had given me and here is now a picture of mine!

I am going to make sure I always include red vegetables because they contain the nutrients that have been shown to lower blood pressure and we all know that I need to do that! Green vegetables help boost your immune system and normalize digestion time, yellow or orange vegetables encourage alkaline balance whilst working to build healthy bones. On that note Natalia, I hope you are proud of my purchases be sure I will keep everyone up to date on how my healthy living diet goes.

This week has been manic, I did my radio show on HDUK on Friday which has been real fun to do, I love reading all the newspapers in New York and reading all the funny or scary bits out on air. I also went to watch the Dr OZ show being taped which was immense fun with my good friend Dr Gerry Curatola who was appearing on the show, which will be aired on 11th March so please check it out as it is a fascinating story. As Dr Oz is from Turkey I managed to put my rusty Turkish to some use and we chatted for a couple of minutes at the end of the show.

The only comment izzi made was ‘Are you getting to keep the Mercedes?’ typical man, how about ‘crikey that is my wife on the front cover of the most famous fashion magazine?’

I have been to some amazing shows this week and I loved, loved, loved the Jenny Packman show, the quotation on the front page of her press release was very fitting for Valentine’s Day ‘ Men cluster to me, Like Moths around a flame and if their wings burn, I know I am not to blame!’ (Marlene Dietrich) Anyway going back to the show, there was a lot of silk chiffon with beaded tulle and sequins combined with Moth wings. I so loved this collection the most feminine of all I have seen this week. I like Jenny if not for anything else other than the fact that she is a fellow Brit. Her presence in some of the world’s premier and most discerning stores from Harrods to Bergdorf Goodman reinforces her international appeal and demand. She has fast become one of the UK’s most regarded designers with not only her creative talent, but commercial success, I applaud her.

Perry Ellis caught my eye but that might be as all the guys were ermmm ‘Hot Totty’. I should keep that thought to myself right? but as it’s Valentines day, a girl is allowed to window shop right? Actually I can see my lovely izzi wearing this fall collection so I will be taking advantage of the offer Perry Ellis very kindly gave me that I can purchase 10 of the styles for the next four days, which is six months before they hit the shops. I moved onto designer  CUSTO, now their actual press release says ‘ A clean slate was the starting point of this collection, pure lines and neutral colors reflect the idea’ Well I guess that got thrown out of the window before it hit the cat walk. I have no idea how they could write that and end up with this. Just saying….

Wool is the Hero Fabric

I will redeem them by saying there were a few pieces I could see in my wardrobe, not as staple pieces but as one off’s, so the fact that they went on to say “wool is the hero fabric and all it’s textures are represented (Yeah really), felted wool, fringes, wool based graphic jacquards and open distressed weaves are used to create an effect of light organza’! OK well I was not sure I wanted to see that all in one outfit but I am sure that we will see CUSTO in the shops by Christmas!

Well I was by this time a little bleary eyed but feeling grateful that it was lunchtime and I was going to have lunch with super model Kara Young at the Plaza Hotel. We were attending the Rush Hearts Education Luncheon, which benefits the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation Programs. Izzi and I met up with the Hair Rules team at the benefit and here we all are at the step and repeat, although I was told not to go out in my hearts Hosiery I did, it was after all Valentine’s Day!

Izzet and I  had a wonderful luncheon at the Plaza hotel, the food was superb, the company a real pleasure to be with and the cause we were all there to support was truly a great one.

I am now looking at my gym kit and thinking I ought to hit more than the step and repeat today, the running machine perhaps? On that note the cup cakes they gave us when we left sadly had to go to the doorman of my building… Happy Valentine’s Day everyone.

Anne Agoren at NYC Fashion Week 2011

As New York Fashion week got underway I was really excited to see what would come out of the collections on the runways. I have been invited to soo many shows that it has been really difficult to decide which, where and when to go. Anyway I wrapped up warm as it was very cold yesterday and scooted off to the Lincoln Center for the first show of the day Nicholas K I was really impressed with the ‘London Look’ created with a lot of bottle green, grey and a kind of caramel warm brown. The Grunge look he created was layers upon layers and more layers, in fact all the clothes in your wardrobe at one time should be worn this autumn. Having said that I loved Nicholas’s collection and I can’t wait for the fall to be able to put my own style stamp on this look.

I then moved on to the Victor De Souza show, which as it happens was in the building next to where I live so convenient to pop home and warm up a little bit. The show was packed and I was glad to be given a front row seat, I felt like royalty as the photographers came along the catwalk and photographed me, so check out the WWD today and see if you can spot me. The collection was really lovely and feminine I so loved his use of different textures and the motives of birds.

His two pieces were very pastel in color and the pale green was not what I would have expected for a fall collection but it somehow made me think that when we get to October, we will all be wishing for spring!

I rushed back to the Lincoln Center to the Tadashi Shoji which actually did not impress me that much and I was a little disappointed to see very boring day dresses strutting along the cat walk. Then just I was thinking of leaving and catching the end of another show the evening wear came out and boy what a change! The Organza floral detail was really pretty and the pleated silk chiffon moved and swayed so chic. The colors chosen were from Begonia, sun glow through to Navy, black and graphite.

Eva Minge

My last show of the day was Polish designer, Eva Minge, I was excited to be again sitting in the front row and I brought izzi along to view her wintry style. We were seated opposite Kelly Rowland and her agent, Kelly was looking very glamorous although I wondered how she managed to walk in those 8″ heels. Eva’s main trend was the use of wool with warmth and imagination and her ready to wear collection was a fusion of prints and exquisite softness. Amazingly fluffy wool and handmade mohair woven with fabric really looked stunning. Eva likes to use a lot of black and for sure it will rule the runways this fall but she accentuated it with red prints and linings. I really loved her collection, she really is a perfectionist in both tailoring and bringing life to her vivid imagination. Bravo….

As we left the Hudson Hotel, one of my favorites in the city (You may remember I lived there when we first moved to New York). izzi and I ran over to Michelin Rated Rouge Tomate for supper with friends. Have you ever been there ? if not make sure next time you are looking for a fabulous restaurant in New York you make it a date. The Executive Chef Jeremy Bearman and Executive Pastry Chef James Distefano have created a twist on Modern-American cuisine. The seasonally inspired culinary offerings rely heavily on locally sourced ingredients and are prepared in consultation with culinary nutritionist Natalia Hancock. The restaurant offers a carefully selected global wine list of over 200 domestic and international varieties, including a large selection of organic and bio dynamic wines and a handful of wines from local estates.I am going to enlighten you more on this place with a review next week, but for now just feast your eyes on this wonderful toast of Mushrooms, sheep’s milk, ricotta, leek and thyme and remember not to tell my diet that I cheated and ate carbs!

Peek through the window and what will they see? Luscious solid milk chocolate hearts wrapped in pink and gold foil – precisely what their hearts desire! Heart of Hearts Chocolates $13 YEAH!!!!! Well actually I had to wander down 5th Avenue just to find their pop up store and there in the window was a desk made from…. yes you guessed it chocolate. I have to tell you that I had to walk away very quickly or those 30lbs I just lost would be piling themselves back on. Have you ever heard that saying ‘ five minutes on the lips means five months on the hips’? well I am a  not going to have that happen, it has taken me three and a half months to loose this weight but…. one won’t hurt will it?
